Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a legendary city hidden in the heart of the Andes at an altitude of 2400 meters. It is often called as «city in the sky» or «city among the clouds», and sometimes - as «lost Incas' city». It takes your breath away when you are looking at its ruins, which are standing out spectacularly among the jungle-covered mountain peaks and steep slopes. Whoever built Machu Picchu took care to plan it down to the smallest details, so that the city could exist independently from the rest of the world. On one side there are palaces and temples. The houses of priests, scientists, and artists surrounded the main city square. farmers lived at the far slope of the mountain, next to animal stalls and barns. Because of the space's lack, houses, temples and palaces had to be built close to each other, while the city blocks and individual buildings were connected mainly by stairs which functioned as streets. Machu Picchu is a perfect work of art made from stone and framed by magnificent nature. It always leaves more questions than answers.
