Aman-i-Khás is a wilderness camp for travellers wishing to experience the stark natural beauty and rural life of Rajasthan. The property sits on a gentle slope on the fringes of Ranthambore National Park against a backdrop of hills. Native vegetation consisting of tall grasses, scrub and trees surrounds the camp, and a watering hole is situated nearby. The entrance to the camp is via a pathway that leads through high walls, opening onto breathtaking views of the rocky Aravalli hills that undulate through Ranthambore National Park.
The camp’s focal point is the outdoor fireplace, an ideal meeting place before or after wildlife safaris into the park, or for star-gazing with a nightcap after dinner. The twice daily safaris provide the opportunity for sighting tigers, leopards, antelope, gazelle and other animals.
Aman-i-Khás welcomes guests from October through to April.
A wilderness camp of 10 tents set on the edge of Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park, Aman-i-Khás combines aman, the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’, with khás, meaning ‘special’ in Hindi and Urdu.
Surrounded by the starkly beautiful Aravalli Hills, the camp provides access to the wildlife of Ranthambore National Park which measures a total of 1,334 square kilometres. Guests of Aman-i-Khás can also explore the region’s ancient forts and colourful rural villages nearby.

Softly lit by lamps, the Dining Tent is furnished with one large central table and several smaller tables, all surrounded by chairs. Indian cuisine and a range of Western dishes are served, and the freshness of produce is ensured as most of the vegetables and herbs are grown in the camp’s organic vegetable garden. Dinner is most often concluded around a roaring outdoor fire that serves as a focal point in the evenings.

Located adjacent to the Dining Tent is the Lounge Tent, furnished with banquettes, reading tables and chairs. The Lounge provides a wide selection of coffee-table books on the National Park, India’s tigers and the history and culture of Rajasthan, as well as other aspects of Indian heritage. Also on offer is a selection of novels, magazines and board games. Guests may listen to the CDs available with personal CD players. A small range of local handicrafts, fabrics and sundries are available for purchase.

The Spa Tent features a small central fountain with two treatment areas, each with twin massage tables. Spa treatments include massages, scrubs and traditional henna art using local herbs and spices.

Situated in the central area of the camp, this outdoor spot with its nightly log fires serves as an informal lounge and dining area. It is the ideal location for basking in the winter sun, as well as providing a relaxed pre- and post-excursion meeting point.

Refreshing dips can be taken in a step-well set within the camp. Modelled on the ancient step-wells that are traditional to the area, the camp’s pool is surrounded by a sunny terrace and grove of trees.

Delhi is the most common international gateway to Aman-i-Khás and the international airport is located 35 kilometres from the city centre. Most international flights arrive in the late evening or early morning. The secondary international gateway to Aman-i-Khás is Jaipur, which offers international flights to and from Dubai (the return leg passes through New Delhi) and Bangkok. Jaipur is a 45-minute flight from Delhi. There are approximately six daily flights between Delhi and Jaipur during high season, operated by Kingfisher, Jet Airways and Indian Airlines. Kingfisher also operates daily flights to Jaipur from Mumbai. Aman-i-Khás provides car transfers between the resort and Jaipur, a three hour’s drive away, at US$200++ per car per way.
From Delhi, guests can travel to Aman-i-Khás by train, plane, motorcar or helicopter. The train is often the most convenient method, and travel time to Sawai Madhopur station, on the outskirts of Ranthambore National Park, is approximately 6 hours by Golden Temple Train and 4 hours by Augustkranti Train. Amanresorts does its best to ensure that the journey runs smoothly and guests travel in a compartment for two to four persons chaperoned by a ‘batman’ or member of staff from Aman-i-Khás. Drinks and light snacks are provided. On arrival in Sawai Madhopur, guests are taken on the 15-minute journey to the camp itself in an open-top vehicle, arriving in time for lunch or dinner. Alternatively, travel by private helicopter is possible, and there is a landing pad 10 minutes from the camp. Price and details are available on request. Other likely arrival points are Jaipur or sister resort Amanbagh. In both cases, transfer by car is recommended, with journeys taking 3 hours and 3½ hours respectively.
On departure, Amanresorts suggests guests travel to Jaipur by car which takes approximately three hours. There are around six commercial jet services each day between Jaipur and Delhi during the high season. These are operated by Indian Airlines, Sahara Airlines and Jet Airways. For guests travelling from Jaipur onto Amanbagh, it is approximately a 90-minute drive at US$100++ per car, each way. In order to process train bookings, details such as gender, age and nationality are required well in advance of travel. Guests need to book their own plane tickets through an international travel agent, however Amanresorts’ reservations office can help coordinate flights.
